Pro Bono Opportunities
The Center provides various opportunities for community engagement. Many of these opportunties are "legal" in nature and require the assistance of a student with experience in family law. The time spent on any of these activities could be counted toward the pro bono recognition that eligible students will receive at graduation. If you are interested in volunteering for a pro bono project, please contact the Center Executive Director, Heidi White McCormick, at hamccorm@law.syr.edu.The following are examples of past pro bono projects:
1. assist with the Onondaga County Bar Association's pro se divorce clinics
2. present powerpoints on divorce and child custody/support issues to Vera House (battered women's shelter) clients and staff
3. assist domestic violence survivors with petitions for orders of protection through the Vera House family court program
4. assist child support clinic participants with completing child support petitions at the Legal Aid Society of Mid-NY
