Professor Sprock Receives Outstanding Faculty Member Award (April 2009)

Casey Sprock, Esq., an adjunct professor at the College of Law, has been selected as a 2009 recipient of the Foundation Award for Outstanding Faculty Member.  The Foundation Awards have been given by the Syracuse University LGBT Resource Center to exemplary individuals since 2003.  Professor Sprock will receive this award during the Seventh Annual Syracuse University Rainbow Banquet on Thursday, April 23, 2009. 

 

Professor Sprock has taught Lawyering Skills for Non-Traditional Families and Sexual Orientation and the Law for the Family Law & Social Policy Center curriculum since 1999.  The Center congratulates Professor Sprock on his achievement!


Law Student Team Wins 2nd Best Brief Award in National Gabrielli Family Law Moot Court Competition (March 2009)

On February 26th, a team of three law students sponsored by the Family Law & Social Policy Center competed in the Annual Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition at Albany Law School.  The students performed very well in three rounds of oral argument and advanced to a second day of competition before being eliminated.  In addition, the the team was awarded the Honorable Victoria A. Graffeo Award for Second-Best Brief in the competition.  Twenty-six teams from across the country participate in this competition each year.  The student team was composed of the following students:  Rachel Van Patten, 2L; Pam Young, 3L; and BoHyun Chun, 3L.  The team was coached by Rebecca Crance, Esq. (L'04) and Michelle Westerman, Esq. (L'05). 

Center Partners in the SAY YES to Education Initiative (February 2009)

Beginning March 1, 2009, the Center will provide support to the volunteer legal team assembled to work with families and children in the Syracuse City School District.  Law student volunteers, working under the supervision of the Center's executive director, will conduct intake for families affected by legal problems and seeking assistance.  Upon determination of the family's legal needs, the students will connect the family to a free legal resource within the community.
