Howrey & Simon
Washington, D.C.
Current Position

Career Path
"I started in this area of law by clerking for Judge Wallach on the United States Court of International Trade. At SU, I received a GLAP certificate and found that my international business transactions class as well as the other international law classes gave some credibility in this area of law. The classes showed my commitment to and interest in international law to future employers."
Recommendations for Students
"For people interested in international trade law, I recommend summer positions with customs and international trade firms, internships/positions with the Department of Commerce International Trade Administration (particularly as an analyst) or the International Trade Commission. A clerkship or internship at the U.S. Court of International Trade (located in NYC) is helpful too. Antidumping law is very business- oriented, so any classes (legal or nonlegal) in accounting would be helpful."
New developments or issues in this area of law
"NAFTA-based trade issues are heating up and I think international arbitration is also becoming an important field. Trade attorneys are hoping that the WTO (World Trade Organization) proceedings will open up more to private counsel (rather than just governments)."
