Graduate PLUS loans are not automatically awarded by the Financial Aid Office. Students must calculate the amount they plan to borrow and then follow the steps to request the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. Use the worksheet below to calculate the amount you need to borrow in a Graduate PLUS Loan.

Take into consideration that your personal expenses may be less than the College of Law’s estimate. Expenses not allowed in the student budget include costs of moving, payment of consumer debt (such as credit card payments), the purchase or upkeep of an automobile, costs associated with finding employment (interview expenses, clothing), and expenses incurred during periods of non-enrollment (i.e. summer).

Once you have calculated the amount needed in a Graduate PLUS Loan above, proceed to the Apply for a Loan section of our website for step-by-step instructions on how to request the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan on the StudentLoans.gov website. Please note that new borrowers at Syracuse University College of Law need to Request the PLUS Loan and Complete a Graduate PLUS MPN and Complete Entrancing Counseling for the Graduate PLUS Loan. All items on your Financial Aid To Do List on MySlice must be completed to finalize your loans.
