Biography:
Joanne Van Dyke is a founding partner in Cote' & Van Dyke, LLP a firm which specializes in helping victims and their families in personal injury, products liability and medical malpractice litigation.
In 1987, Van Dyke graduated from Syracuse University College of Law, Syracuse, New York. In 2009, she received her LLM Degree in Trial Advocacy from Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Van Dyke is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the United States District Court Northern District of New York, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Van Dyke has been an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse College of Law since 2004. Since 1996, Van Dyke has been the coach/coordinator of the Law School Trial Team Advocacy Program, which is one of the top-rated mock trial teams in the nation. The top ranked SUCOL trial teams include the Tournament of Champions, TYLA National Trial Competition, American Association for Justice Trial Competition, American Bar Association Criminal Trial Competition, National Civil Trial Competition, and the Buffalo Niagara National Criminal Trial Competition. According to Van Dyke, the trial advocacy program “helps law students take their knowledge of the law and apply it to the real problems presented by clients in a mock trial competition setting. The students are able to develop the skills of interviewing and counseling clients, writing about their legal issues, and learning how to effectively and ethically advocate their client’s positions in and out of the courtroom.”
Van Dyke regularly addresses the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, and other groups at continuing education legal seminars and conferences. She is a member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, and various Bar Association Judicial Screening Committees. Van Dyke is a former Officer/Member of the Upstate Trial Lawyer’s Association, the CNY Women’s Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Onondaga County Bar Association Assigned Counsel Program.
