Cost of Attendance
The cost of attending a professional graduate program represents a significant financial commitment. Applicants must understand fully the long-term financial obligation that may be associated with earning a professional degree, and consequently, develop a financial plan.

The College of Law develops a Cost of Attendance worksheet for students, based on enrollment status, to provide an estimate of the costs that are reasonable to attend Syracuse University College of Law and pursue the J.D. program. Click on your anticipated level of study below to access the Cost of Attendance Worksheet for your enrollment for the 2008-2009 academic year.
First year (1L) Students              Second year (2L) Students                     Third year (3L) Students

Average costs of books, housing, meals, and personal expenses for the typical law student (regardless of level of study) for the 2008-2009 academic year are estimated below. Your actual expenses may be less than our estimate.
  • Books and supplies: $1,270
  • Housing and meals: $11,270 (average cost for either on- or off-campus housing)
  • Additional expenses: $3,910 (including health insurance, personal expenses, and transportation)

Students entering the College of Law are required to own a personal notebook computer. The estimated cost of attendance on the worksheets above do not include the cost of purchasing a new notebook computer, however, it has been our experience that personal expenses within the budget categories vary from student to student and you may not need to borrow additional student loans in excess of the estimated cost of attendance to cover the cost of your computer. If the computer you already own meets our minimum specifications, you are not obligated to purchase a new notebook computer.

Students are encouraged to utilize personal resources and reduce expenses whenever possible. To reduce indebtedness upon graduation, borrow only the minimum amount necessary to meet your educational expenses.
