Aris Evia obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California – Davis in 1995.  In 1999, he earned both his Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law, through the joint degree program at Syracuse University.  While at the College of Law, Mr. Evia participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, where he chaired the Mackenzie Hughes LLP, Edmund H. Lewis Appellate Advocacy Competition.  Upon graduation, he was awarded membership to the Order of the Barristers for excellence in a law school oral advocacy program.  In addition, Mr. Evia completed a one-year public policy fellowship with the Coro Foundation.

Mr. Evia has spent much of his career in the private sector, practicing primarily at Gordon & Rees LLP in San Francisco, but he is also an experienced public servant having served in all three branches of government – executive, judicial and legislative, as well as all three levels of government – federal, state and local.  He currently serves as the Advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Land Management at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Mr. Evia’s previous government positions include Law Clerk to the Honorable James E. Graves, Jr., L’80, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, and Senior Consultant to the California State Assembly, Committee on Natural Resources. 

In 2006, the American Bar Association (ABA) elected Aris as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and the State Bar of California Board of Governors appointed him as a Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates, as well as a Leadership Academy Scholar.  He is admitted to practice before the State Bars of California and New York, the District of Columbia Bar, and the U.S. Supreme Court.  Mr. Evia and his wife, Jennifer Cooper (Maxwell MPA ’99), live in Washington, D.C.
