Non-Discrimination Policy Military Recruitment

Four branches of the US armed forces will be conducting seminars or interviews at the College of Law during the 2009-2010 academic year.

The College of Law is required by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) to notify all students that the US armed forces discriminate on the basis of age and sexual orientation.  Neither Syracuse University nor the AALS's non-discrimination policies permit this discrimination.

Syracuse University's non-discrimination policy states:

Syracuse University is an equal opportunity, affirmative-action institution.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation, or status as a disabled veteran or a veteran of the Vietnam era to any extent discrimination is prohibited by law.  The nondiscrimination policy covers admissions, employment, and access to and treatment in University programs, services, and activities.

Syracuse University supports equal opportunity regardless of race, color, national origin, or gender, and in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, or gender.

Questions about any of the University's equal-opportunity policies, including compliance with Title VI and Title IX may be directed to Neil B. Strodel, associate vice president for human resources, Office of Human Resources, Skytop Office Building, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY 13244-5300, telephone 315-443-4224.

Syracuse University does not agree with the armed forces' discrimination based on age or sexual orientation. Syracuse University College of Law is ameliorating the armed forces' presence, because of the Solomon-Pombo Amendment that assesses financial penalties against colleges who ban armed forces recruitment.

Syracuse University College of Law is committed to creating a hospitable environment for all students.  All student opinions on this subject will be heard.  Please feel free to email career@law.syr.edu to voice an opinion on this subject.  All emails will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
