Housing Issues - Landlord Tenant Court
Landlord/Tenant Court is a Pro Bono Program organized by the Onondaga County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyer Project (VLP). This is an exciting opportunity to help volunteer attorneys represent tenants facing eviction and to observe the landlord/tenant court proceedings and negotiation process while doing that.
As a support person for the VLP, your job will be to help interview a tenant, collect his/her information, and present the case to an attorney. This ground work is extremely important because it allows the attorney to quickly grasp the essence of the case and to focus on the defenses and negotiations to effectively represent a client. The more tenants interviewed prior to the attorney's arrival, the more people will get legal representation they are entitled to.
Students interested in this opportunity will shadow the current staff getting trained on procedure, intake process and follow up required.
Catherine Gerlach will be chairing this project. To Volunteer, please submit the Volunteer Interest Form to Student Life.
