Mackenzie Lewis Appellate Advocacy Competition
The Mackenzie Hughes LLP, Edmund H. Lewis Appellate Competition is one of the most prestigious moot court competitions at Syracuse University College of Law. This annual competition, organized by the Moot Court Honor Society, has been made possible by the generous support of Mackenzie Hughes LLP, located in downtown Syracuse. The competition is named after the Honorable Edmund H. Lewis, distinguished alumnus of Syracuse University College of Law, who served as a partner with Mackenzie Hughes LLP and as Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals. Judge Lewis graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1909. As an attorney, he earned a reputation as an exceptional appellate advocate. During his tenure, the Court of Appeals issued landmark rulings in the areas of products liability, corporate law, and criminal procedure that form the foundation for some of today’s most important legal principles. The law firm of Mackenzie Hughes LLP is located in downtown Syracuse and continues to support this annual competition in Judge Lewis's honor.
