George McGuire L'96

George mcGuireGEORGE R. MCGUIRE received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University in 1991. He later received his Juris Doctor from the Syracuse University College of Law, magna cum laude, in 1996 where he was inducted into the Justinian Honorary Law Society. Mr. McGuire also served as Research Assistant to Professor Ted Hagelin, and credits Professor Hagelin's Technology Commercialization Law Program for providing an outstanding curriculum of pragmatic courses and seminars that tie together legal and business issues surrounding technology commercialization and transfer. Prior to receiving his law degree, Mr. McGuire practiced for five years as a Patent Agent in his family-run intellectual property boutique firm. He is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Federal Circuit.

Mr. McGuire is a Registered Patent Attorney and is currently Chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group at Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC in Syracuse. He concentrates his practice in all facets of Intellectual Property Law, including, patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, litigation in the federal courts and before the International Trade Commission involving intellectual property issues, preparing patent and trademark clearance opinions, intellectual property due diligence investigations in merger and acquisition, asset purchase and other financial transactions. He has appeared in proceedings before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

In addition to his practice, Mr. McGuire is also an Adjunct Professor at the College of Law, where he has taught courses in Computer Law, Internet Law and Entertainment Law; he has also lectured on Trademark and Unfair Competition Law, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. Mr. McGuire has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), and is the author of annual updates to the Thomson-West treatise entitled Trade Dress Law. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2010, Super Lawyers, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders.

Mr. McGuire is President of the Central New York Patent Law Association, and serves on the Advisory Board of the New York State Science and Technology Law Center (NYS STLC) at the College of Law. He is also a member of the Rochester Intellectual Property and American Intellectual Property Law Associations, the American Bar Association, and the New York State (formerly Co-Chair, Trademark Committee, Intellectual Property and Technology Section) and Onondaga County Bar Associations.

In the community, Mr. McGuire has served in many volunteer positions, and has had long tenures on the Board of Directors of the Everson Museum of Art and the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), and also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Central New York division of the March of Dimes Foundation . In addition, Mr. McGuire has a long-standing involvement on the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York, having served as Chairman of its Board from 2007-2009. Mr. McGuire resides in Jamesville, New York with his wife Tanya and their three children.
